Instructional Levels and Areas
Nicaragua Christian Academy is committed to a strong academic
program with a Christian foundation. We seek to provide students
with the skills to seek a vocation based on God's leading. It is
our desire that the students develop a personal relationship with
Jesus Christ and grow in a life committed to Christian service. The school's
instructional program is college preparatory.
Curriculum
NCA has developed a detailed curriculum in compliance with the requirements for its SACS CASI and ACSI accreditation. The
following textbooks are used: Bob Jones (Social Studies and Science), Scott Foresman (Language Arts),
Prentice Hall (Mathematics), CSI (Bible).
Pre-Kindergarten
At
the preschool level, the main focus is English language learning.
All regular academic subjects in the elementary and high school
divisions are taught in English; the preschool years are taught
in English and Spanish, providing the students with the English
language skills to continue into the next level. In preschool, the
students learn basic letters, colors, numbers, and shapes.
Elementary
The
elementary levels provide a comprehensive course of study. These
formative years seek to teach students responsibility and develop
critical thinking skills. Subjects include Reading, Writing, Grammar,
Spelling, Vocabulary, Handwriting, Mathematics, Art, Music, Computer
Technology, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Bible, Physical
Education, and Spanish. Students are evaluated on academic, effort,
and behavioral progress.
Secondary
The
high school level includes seventh through twelfth grades. The instruction
is intended to provide students with a broad education and prepare
them for attendance at a university or beginning a career. We seek
to provide the student with the ability to discern truth in the
light of God's Word. As they attend classes, students are involved
in active learning and decision-making and provided with opportunities
to further develop their gifts in a particular area. Self-management
skills and personal responsibility are essential in these years.
Evaluation of learning takes place through class participation,
assignments, and testing, and the results are published through
quarterly report cards and mid-quarter progress reports.
Summer Camp
Nicaragua Christian Academy offers a six-week course each summer
to the general public. Campers ages 3-12 enjoy field trips, games,
music, art, sports, and Bible activities, all the time improving
their English and making new friends. If you are interested in how
you can help with Summer Camp please see our Summer
Camp page.
Dual Accreditation
Nicaragua Christian Academy is currently the only school in Nicaragua (and one of only two schools in all of
Central America) to have dual accreditation in the United States.
Nicaragua
Christian Academy has full regional U.S. accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools: Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI). Students graduating
from NCA will receive a U.S. high school diploma recognized at all public and private colleges and
universities in the United States, Canada, and many other countries worldwide.
Nicaragua
Christian Academy is the first school in Central America to be accredited by the Association of Christian
Schools International (ACSI). ACSI is a premier provider of professional services and resources for
Christian educators worldwide, and is widely recognized among both public and private colleges and universities
in the United States, Canada, and other countries worldwide.
In addition, NCA is authorized by the Nicaraguan Ministry of Education (MINED) to
issue the "Bachillerato" to graduates who meet the criteria
for the Central-America high school diploma.
We are an affiliate member of Christian Schools International (CSI). CSI is a nonprofit organization
that has been serving schools in the U.S. and Canada since 1920. CSI is committed to advancing Christian
education and supports schools in their task of teaching students to know God and his world and to glorify
him through obedient service.
