NCA students have many opportunities to develop their athletic
abilities. In addition to Physical Education classes at all levels,
students have the option of participating in a number of organized
team sports.
Soccer
The high school varsity boys and girls soccer teams play a Fall
season. Home games are played on our own regulation-sized grass
field. The teams also play in a number of invitational tournaments
throughout the year.
In addition to varsity soccer, students in all younger levels (both
boys and girls) have opportunities to play on one of several teams.
Children of ages 7-15 have regular practice times and weekly games
with similar-aged teams from other schools.
Volleyball
High school girls and boys may participate in an after-school volleyball
program. Players practice regularly on one of two regulation volleyball
courts to develop their skills and improve their teamwork. The teams
play games against other nearby schools and participate in tournaments.
Basketball
Boys and girls from elementary through high school may also play
on a number of basketball teams. Teams practice and play on two
regulation courts. As with other sports, players compete against
teams of similar ages from neighboring schools throughout the year.
Coaches
All athletic teams are coached by dedicated teachers, parents,
and friends of the school who have knowledge and experience in their
sport. The athletic department is headed up by Rachel Pontier, who is
the High School physical education teacher.
The soccer program is supervised by elementary physical education teacher,
Edgard Fajardo. Seņor Fajardo is an experienced coach of many years
and has been involved with Nicaragua National Soccer Teams,
an organization of athletic teams across the country. The volleyball
program is overseen by school counselor and psychology teacher,
Marysol Zamora. Mrs. Zamora has many years of playing and coaching
experience and believes strongly in teamwork.
