Sponsor a Child

The Problem: Recent statistics reveal that the public school system in Nicaragua only invests between $54 and $82 per child each year (compared with $6,000-$12,000 in the U.S.). Many teachers are underpaid and undertrained. Many schools are overcrowded with 50 or 60 students in each classroom. Of the 2 million school-aged children in Nicaragua, only 1.6 million are studying. The level of education in many schools is very low and does not often teach higher-level thinking skills, resorting instead to rote memorization.

The Need: There are many who dream of having their children study in a better school but whose economic situations prevent them from enrolling. NCA Nejapa offers children the academics and Christian foundation that are essential in forming future leaders in a country that is desperate for moral leadership.

The Sponsorship Program

Today, NCA Nejapa has grown to a size of over 280 students and 22 teachers. Approximately 18% of our students are receiving financial aid in the form of school sponsorship. Their families pay a nominal amount, such as $5 per month, for tuition. Most also cover the cost of school supplies and uniform, although these are included for some sponsored families depending on their need.

Your Responsibility: We ask that sponsors consider giving $500 each year until their sponsored child graduates from 11th grade. Donations are tax-deductible when given through Worldwide Christian Schools.

Our Commitment: Sponsors will receive:

• 4x6 photo of child each year
• Personal communication from child
• Report cards twice each year
• Tax-deductible receipts
