Bye Bye, Cafetin
After years of vision and
fundraising, the first phase of the NCA Fine Arts Center is
nearing completion. This first phase includes a new
cafeteria, an art classroom, office storage and a new
conference room. The new cafeteria opened up on
September 10 with a brand new spacious kitchen, two serving
lines and a streamlined efficient design in which most of the
food and drinks are self-service.
The old "cafetin", as many of us
nostalgically remember it, ceased to exist just a few days
after graduation in June; it was disassembled to make space
for the construction.
In addition to the cafeteria and
conference room, the new Fine Arts Center will include a
gymnasium/auditorium for 800 people, professional stage with
lights and curtains, control booth, recording studio, balcony,
locker and dressing rooms, and ample storage for the school's
needs. It will also include three classrooms for art,
choir and band.
We completed our first
fundraising goal of $65,000 to finish the first phase, and are
now seeking donations for the second phase. This stage
includes the choir and band classrooms, the balcony and
the main entrance, and will cost approximately $65,000 (the
same amount as the first phase). Approximately 40% of
the costs are coming from NCA parents in Nicaragua; we are
seeking the remaining 60% from North American donors. If
you can help, please visit our school website for information
on how to give online. All donations are tax-deductible
in the United States and Canada.
Spiritual Leadership
Retreat
For the first time ever, our 11th
and 12th grade students participated in a Spiritual Leadership
Retreat on September 4 and 5, with the goal of gaining
confidence and skills in leading their friends and
peers.
The school environment in
elementary is largely influenced by the teachers, while the
atmosphere in high school is largely influenced by the
students. We hope that our upperclassmen will be able to
effectively create a strong positive spiritual climate in the
middle and high school through positive peer pressure and good
leadership skills.
Sessions included topics such as
leading small groups, peer counseling, outreach, servant
leadership, spiritual gifts and communication skills.
The students enjoyed plenty of time in recreation, worship,
meals, cabin time and small group discussions as
well as prayer for each other and for their
school.
Most of the juniors and seniors
will be small group leaders once per month with mixed groups
of 5-6 students in 7th through 12th grade. The small
groups will meet during chapel time, with the goal of helping
all of our students grow closer to the Lord and hold each
other accountable in their faith.
Harvest in
Nicaragua
By Bob and Noemi
Caiazzo Missionary family at Nicaragua Christian
Academy Serving with Assembly of God World
Missions
Families that live in the remote
mountain villages in Nicaragua have very precarious
lives. The only supply of food for many families is
green plantains that are boiled and eaten with salt. The high
prices of fuel and food have brought many families to a lower
level of poverty.
Our family continues to feed 230
undernourished children at our feeding centers -- one in
Rancho Grande and the other in Cerro Verde. In the picture, we
see these little ones pray gratefully to God for the food they
have to eat. We are making poverty disappear by feeding these
little ones.
Yaritza, a three year old little
girl, died this past month. Her legs were as thin as her
wrists and the yellow tint of her brown hair showed the
affects of hunger. She is just one of many children who suffer
from starvation and anemia. With the help of God we hope to be
the miracle in the lives of these precious
children.
We thank God for all his provisions
to continue with this ministry, and we are very grateful to
God for all his faithfulness. Our daughter Jennifer is a
senior this year at Nicaragua Christian Academy. We are very grateful for this
school because it has prepared her with an education of
academic excellence with a Christian foundation. Our daughter
Catherine also graduated from this school and she is now a
junior at the University of Evangel in Missouri. We
believe in a Christian education for our children because they
not only get the knowledge but their character is also formed
to become godly leaders wherever God calls them.
Prayer and
Praise
- Praise God for His provision of
a record high number of students. We now have 268
students enrolled at NCA and 240 students enrolled at NCA
Nejapa.
- Pray that God will begin working
in the hearts of potential teachers as He calls them to
Nicaragua.
- Pray that Nicaragua Christian
Academy and NCA Nejapa will be effective in raising up
leaders ready and willing to transform their
communities and make decisions of integrity based upon
God's Word.
- Pray for the country of
Nicaragua in the midst of difficult economic and political
circumstances.
